渭城朝雨浥轻尘，
客舍青青柳色新。
劝君更尽一杯酒，
西出阳关无故人

The Song of Weicheng
by Wang Wei of Tang dynasty

The morn rain of Weicheng wets the dust light,
The fresh willows by the tavern look bright.
Dear sir, please empty one more cup of wine,
West of Yang Pass no old friends'll be in sight.

【注】
渭城 Weicheng: an ancient town near Xi-an in Shan Xi province.

阳关 Yang Pass: an ancient pass about 40 miles southwest of Dun-Huang.



【云天晕语】

At departing time, all the poet could say to his friend is, "please empty one more cup of wine."

When words fail, silence fills the wine cup with good wishes that are beyond language.

This poem evokes the song of Auld Lang Syne in my mind:
"Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
................... "
